IRS Payment Changes Coming September 30, 2025

Beginning September 30, 2025, the IRS will no longer accept paper checks (and refund checks will no longer be issued). This is due to an Executive Order signed by the President in March.
These changes are meant to modernize federal payment systems by eliminating paper checks. This applies to all federal agencies, including the IRS, and will change how we pay taxes and receive refunds going forward.
This new requirement will immediately affect the following:
-
4th quarter 2025 1040-ES payments (vouchers can no longer be mailed with payments)
-
Balances due on 2024 tax returns not paid on or before September 30, 2025
-
Payroll tax deposits due on or after September 30, 2025
If any of these apply to you, you must respond right away!!!
